Now that the government is dealing with the vaccination campaign, the hospital ship continues to provide assistance to the communities of riberinhos.

The Brazilian government has also regularized the administration of vaccines to people living in the seven municipalities of the lower Amazon, reaching well over half the population.
Thanks to the above and facilitated by the international mobilization of a large number of organizations and the “A Vaccine for All” #DareToCare campaign, the Papa Francisco hospital ship has been able to provide assistance to families and those in need of treatment for COVID, as part of the “Prevention, vaccine and healthcare for the riberinhos of Amazonia” project. The Diocese of Óbidos has also contributed to the process in a fundamental way by purchasing an oxygen production plant which is essential for those who are sick.

In recent months, thanks to the generosity and care of many supporters, funds have been raised that will be used by the hospital boat to tackle two serious problems that have arisen during this period. Because of this year’s floods many families have lost their homes and jobs (fishing, their main means of livelihood, has become almost impossible). This is why we continue to assist the people with basic necessities, sanitizing products and other COVID-prevention products.

At the height of the emergency, many therapies and surgeries were suspended.

Today, thanks to a change in the situation, the Papa Francisco and Papa Giovani Paulo II hospital boats are now able to carry out various examinations, medical analyses, therapies, such as dental treatment and operations, from surgical to ophthalmic procedures, and reach people living in the most isolated areas, those who in the past had difficulties reaching the hospital.
